Individual Support Services
Speech and language practices are integrated into the curriculum at Norbel. In addition, counseling services are available to assist students in the development of productive problem-solving skills.
The on-site speech and language therapist provides lessons that focus on language pragmatics, receptive and expressive language skills, written expression and vocabulary development, to name a few. The Speech-Language Pathologist also regularly consults with faculty concerning individual student needs, consults with outside therapists working with students in direct therapy, and provides individual therapy for those students who receive public funding.
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker is available to students, teachers,
and parents on an as needed basis. Serving as a counselor for
students who make impulsive decisions, need guidance and direction
concerning social interactions, require assistance to work through
the decision making process, and helps students deal effectively
with frustration and disappointment. The social worker is also available
to consult with teachers concerning individual students and provide
ideas for techniques to employ to address their specific needs.
Since many of our students have language disabilities, the social worker
will collaborate with the speech and language therapist to further
address the social needs of the student. It is not uncommon for
the psychologist to work closely with family members to develop
consistent goals that enable the child to successfully manage his
day at school and at home.
Norbel’s tutors provide intensive, specific one-to-one instruction
for those students who are at-risk for being non-readers. Through
informal assessments and faculty recommendations, the determination
is made concerning who will benefit from the specialized tutoring.
Norbel High School's guidance office directs students and parents through the high school experience and beyond. The counselor offers individualized academic, post secondary, and career counseling to all High School students and their families.
